At Princeton we have what we call "Eating Clubs" that we belong to as a part of a long standing tradition at the University. They are beautiful houses on campus, along Prospect Street, that we become members of our sophomore year. The membership includes men and women from all sorts of backgrounds, clubs, athletic teams, etc. I am a member of the Cottage Club, and one of my favorite parts about this Princeton tradition is the camaraderie it creates and the way you feel like you are part of one big family that extends well beyond the years everyone graduated.
Melissa Seitz, one of my best friends, a teammate, and the one who helped me decide on Cottage, wrote a piece in our UCC Newsletter. She was a year older than me, someone I looked up to, and most of all, she was there for me from the moment I stepped foot on Princeton's campus. The piece she wrote was a surprise to me and one that absolutely made my day. Below is a snip of her incredibly kind and humbling words:
"Kayleigh Iatarola '11, known to most as KK, has touched the lives of so many people at Princeton and Cottage. KK has a beautiful heart. She is kind, funny, and loving. She sees the best in everyone and never takes anything for granted. Most importantly, KK is an incredibly loyal friend. Now, she needs our help.
I first met KK when she came to preseason from Chicago as a freshman for the Princeton Women's soccer team. Her fun, laid-back personality instantly stood out to me. She was a breath of fresh air, so open-hearted and easy to connect with. She was the spark that made our team special. It took only seconds for us to become the best of friends...."
Thank you Mel and thank you so much to the UCC family for your donations, and notes of encouragement. I look forward to hopefully seeing you at reunions this year:)
